Welcome to the final tour of the Log Home Tour Series! The last Sunday of June is held as National Log Cabin Day, so each year I host the tours to celebrate!
Today we are visiting Victoria's Cabin. When I first found Victoria on Instagram, I thought she lived in a traditional log cabin. After discussing it with her I discovered it's actually a combination of stucco walls and log ceilings. Kind of an upside down log cabin!
Welcome to our Home. We are Brian and Vicki Higbee
Our little Town is called Alpine , Utah. We are 35 miles SE. Of SLC and 25 miles NE from Provo city. Our Elevation here is around 5,000 feet so the weather can be a little wild in the Spring time! We have beautiful views of the Lone Peak Wilderness Area all around us with peaks that are 11,000 ft high .
Our house is a constructed Post and Beam, old world crafted. The contractor has European+North American blend building style. Our front door and all the doors are so thick. They were brought over from Switzerland and I have yet to find ANY hardware to fit this front door!
Some of the unique features of our house that we so enjoy are the use of large single support beams, some more than 20 feet in length.
All ceilings are wood of different shapes and styles per each room with both rough and machined wood. Unique exterior and interior walls use a very special hard style of stucco gives it the high-low look to the walls which does look very European.
Brian and I love to honor the style of house. We have brought in many antiques from Europe and those that we find in our travels. It's a very cozy and different home and we love the warmth we feel as soon as we enter our home. It definitely feels like we are constantly on vacation here.
The old Grain shed in our back yard was one that George Washington McDaniel, an early Settler of Alpine, built in the 1860-70 's and when his property was subdivided we made sure that it was saved and not torn down. It took a brave bunch of men to move it to our back yard! We love it, we love the history of it and my dream is to fix it up into a working shed to showcase all of our antiques.
It's a funny story of how we came to this house: Brian is a real estate Broker and was showing this house to some clients that wanted to see it. Going through the house he told the people that this house is no good for them. They asked why and he said, "Because I'm going to buy it!! And he came Home and we did just that! We have made many memories here with our seven children, seven spouses, 31 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild !!
