Hey
everyone! Welcome! If you're coming from the One Room Challenge and are new
around here, I'll tell you a little a bit about us. My husband and I bought
this log home in foreclosure about three years ago. We just knew it would be
the perfect place to raise our four kids.
It
had been empty for several years and besides the structure itself needing lots
of repairs, everything inside needed updating. We've slowly been renovating and
updating the house, making every effort to maintain its integrity and uniqueness.
This
is our third time participating in the One Room Challenge, well kinda. Maybe I
should say this is our third attempt! Our first time was last Spring,
when we did my husband's Modern Rustic Home Office. Last Fall we got one week
into the challenge and then Hurricane Matthew brought everything to a sudden
stop. Our first level was flooded with 7' of mucky river water for two weeks. You can read all about that in Floods and Stuff | What We've Been Up To. So for the last seven months we've been repairing all of the damage that
did to the systems of the house. Oh and we've been renovating our attached
mother-in-law apartment for my in-laws to move in. It's been a busy seven
months!!
Ok,
on to the room I'm making over for the One Room Challenge! Up until
recently we had all three of our boys in one big bedroom. But our oldest really
wanted his own space, so we moved him into one of the dormer rooms. These are
my favorite rooms in the house, so sunny and bright, with gorgeous vaulted
ceilings and hand hewn beams. We have two, one is my husband's office, and this
one was going to be my studio. But this room ended up being the best place for
our son to move in.
With everything going on, I kind of cleared my things out
mostly and then put his bed in. You can see my sewing cabinet and machines are still in here and there are some storage bins and cabinets that need to come our too. This room obviously needs some storage solutions.
I really want to take this time to give him a room he will be able to love for years. As
to what we're gonna do in here? I got nothin'. Well we have some ideas
but not a solid plan yet. I swore I wouldn't fly by the seat of my pants
on this one, but time just got away from me. But I spent some time talking to
my son and cruising Pinterest with him to get an idea of what he likes. Once we
got the idea of a giant Greenbay Packers football player Fathead looming over
his room out of the way, he's decided he wants green for sure because it's his
favorite color. And he's been our little scientist all his life so it's no
surprise he wants it to be sciencey. Is that even a word? And a desk. I think
that's a reasonable request. I can see something built in here.
So
here we go! I'm really excited about doing this room for our boy. Make
sure you sign up for my emails up at the top of my sidebar so you can hang out
with us!
