From the moment I opened the box and saw the beautiful wooden watch box I was impressed and excited. There is so much detail just in the engraved box, I couldn't wait to see the watch! I chose the Cora women's watch, made of Koa wood with a rose quartz face and Swarovski crystals. I have to say I really love this rustic glam mix! It's totally me!
Wooden Watches by JORD
JORD uses a large variety of woods to create their watches, like acacia, bamboo, koa, maple, sandalwood, walnut, and zebrawood. My watch is crafted from Koa, a hardwoood native to Hawaii. It has a beautiful grain and is very smooth.
I can't even tell you how many compliments I've received on this unique watch. A watch made of wood? How cool! These links will take you to the JORD website to explore their other women's watches and men's watches.
The Cora Series of women's watches have a self-winding automatic mechanical movement. That means it doesn't need a battery. As you wear the watch and move, this semi-circle piece is affected by gravity and moves back and forth, which winds a spring. The spring stores the energy to keep the watch going. That's a simple way to explain it, but pretty cool, right? Did I mention I worked for years as a mechanical engineering designer and I love this stuff? You can see some of the movement through the little hole in the face and the entire works are exposed through the clear back.
JORD recommends not letting the watch experience sudden and extreme changes in temperature and humidity to prevent damage to the wood. The watch is treated with tung oil to protect the wood so it is splash proof, but not water resistant. JORD's information says normal sink activities and rain are not an issue. I wear my
Grandmother's antique watch a lot too, so this is not a problem for me.
So would I recommend a JORD wood watch? Definitely! It's a fun, unique and eye catching timepiece and it feels special to wear.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out these unique watches with me!
